Erin Selleck

Broadway Financial Corp, Independent Director

After a 30-year career in financial services, I’m now enjoying a ‘portfolio career’, which essentially means I get to work on a number of really interesting and engaging things, rather than having one ‘day job’. For me, my portfolio of activities is centered on board service. I serve on a public company board, where I chair the Audit Committee, and on Advisory Boards for two early stage private companies. I also serve on boards for non-profit organizations, where I focus on my particular passions for environmental sustainability, and the advancement of women and girls.

Q: Why did you join the board?
A: After attending the fast pitch event in 2014, I was so impressed with WFN that I had to be a part of it!

Q: What have you learned?
A: After a career in large mature companies, the startup world was new to me, so I had a lot to learn and I’m still learning every day. One key takeaway is that so many of the basic principles of successfully creating shareholder value apply equally to companies of all sizes and stages. Despite many differences in details, the fundamentals–effective leadership for example–are essential keys to success for all companies.

Q: What most excites you about WFN?
A: I’m most excited and energized by the opportunity to meet the amazing women entrepreneurs, and to help to support them as they grow and thrive.

Q: What types of startups really excite you?
A: One of the things that interests me most about the work we do at WFN is the chance to see such a wide array of different kinds of startups. The opportunity to learn about new industries, new technologies, and new markets is beyond exciting!

Q: A few tidbits and random facts:

  • I spent three years sailing in Mexico and Central America with my husband on our sailboat.
  • Growing up, I dreamed of becoming an astronaut and still hope to get to space one day
